Soul Food.
“No matter where you go, there you are.”
Yogi Berra
Obama used to quote Yogi Berra as an all American giant and a jovial prophet. I love that quote. For me, it sits up there, alongside the commonly loved saying “Home is where the heart is”. Quality of life is a life well lived, with butter, pastry, lobster, roasted hazelnuts, couverture chocolate, in whatever order makes sense for you. It sits alongside my own made up saying which is, “Honour food as the centre of your universe.” Because we can’t live without.
Be unapologetic when tracking miles to find that essential ingredient. And when you find it, celebrate by using generous portions of this in your favourite recipe. Most importantly, share it with loved ones, with family. With newly made friends. With anyone you have the joy of sharing a meal with. When it comes to a life well lived, it’s scouting for great produce, it is cooking, smelling, stirring, baking, creating and finally, breaking bread with others. Throw in laughter and generous portions, and you’ll have found that wonderfully, fulfilling pursuit of creating food for others. For me, that’s what makes the world go round.
